A completely new and innovative technology for finding water leaks

Detecting leaks on small bore service pipes is time consuming, costly and disruptive. Leaks are often small, rarely visible on the surface and make little or no noise. Identifying the exact location of leaks usually requires expensive exploratory work to expose or re-lay sections of pipe work The Ferret Leak Location System uses new tried and tested technology to reliably pinpoint leaks on smooth bore service pipelines. The patented technology provides a fast and accurate method for finding even the smallest leaks on plastic, copper and lead pipes. The system is designed for pipes with internal diameters ranging from 10 to 50 mm

The Ferret is an in-pipe tethered device that uses hydraulic not acoustic principles to locate leaks. The system comprises of a loose fitting plug (the Head) that is introduced into the pipeline via an existing access point such as a meter or valve pit, or directly into the exposed pipeline.A flexible umbilical cord attached to the Head contains a trace wire that allows the depth and position of the buried pipeline to be traced and the exact position of the Head / leak to be located accurately. The leak location process can be repeated to find any number of leaks in a pipeline. Up to fifty metres of pipeline can be surveyed from a single access point.

The ergonomically designed system is compact and portable, weighing less than twenty kilograms. The system has several benefits over existing technologies and techniques which delivers significant improvements in operational productivity and reduction in costs.

Key features…
• Effective in plastic, copper and lead pipes • Robust Head design with operating pressure from 1 to 5 Bar
• Interchangeable Heads for locating leaks in pipes with internal diameters from 10 to 40mm
• Heads pass easily through most types of joints and fittings
• Fifty metre leak location survey from each entry point
• Powered by water pressure
• In-built high resolution flow sensor that quantifies leaks from 0.03 to 25 litres per minute
• Simple push button operation, competent use requires minimal training
• In-built line and end tracing features
• Portable device weighing less than 18Kg

Key Benefits…

• Robust interchangeable Head design with operating pressure from 1 to 5 Bar and from 10 to 40mm internal pipe diameter
• Fifty metre leak location survey from each entry point. Multiple leaks can be pinpointed and quantified in a single survey
• Pin-point accuracy when locating leaks reduces the amount of excavation work required to undertake repairs
Leak quantification – Ferret’s in-built flow sensor measures the size of the leak from 0.03 to 25 litres per minute. Multiple leaks can be pin-pointed and quantified in a single pipeline survey, giving the operator the information required to make the decision to repair, replace or leave alone
Pipe tracing – Ferret has an in-built sonde that eliminates the problems associated with tracing buried plastic pipelines. The sonde is compatible with all standard cable and pipe detection apparatus. Ferret can also be used to trace non leaking pipelines, enabling cost effective pipeline surveys to be undertaken where no plans exist.
• Heads pass easily through joints with internal diameters of 9mm and above negating the need for additional excavations
• Simple push button operation enabling leaks to be located quickly and efficiently. Competent use requires minimal training
• Safe and simple to operate – Ferret Heads are made from WRAS approved materials and the system uses mains water requiring no external power or gas. Competent and efficient use of the Ferret requires only minimal training.

Some additional benefits our customers are realising by using Ferret are…

• No requirement for external power or gas means operating costs are low
• Eliminates cut and cap as leaks are pinpointed to within millimeters enabling spot repairs
• Quickly locates tiny leaks that make no noise eliminating problem jobs
• Reduces the number and size of excavations which saves time and materials
• Operated by repair contractors for a more streamlined find and fix process
• Minimises disruption to private property reducing impact on customers
